A powerful testament to art's ability in provoking change and challenging the status quo. Collect this four colour screen print by General Idea, a pioneering collective founded in the late 1960s by AA Bronson, Felix Partz, and Jorge Zontal.

Exploring themes of authorship, identity, and sexuality, General Idea utilized a variety of mediums, including theatrical performance, magazines, and television shows, to challenge societal norms with humour and incisive critique.

AIDS (Cadmium Red Light) is an historic example of the collective's activism surrounding the AIDS epidemic. Based on Robert Indiana's iconic LOVE motif, General Idea appropriated the image in 1987 to raise awareness about AIDS during a time when the disease was shrouded in silence and stigma.

“Our idea was that this was a kind of advertising campaign for a disease that nobody wanted to talk about at the time,” Bronson has recalled. “It was being kind of hushed up.” The logo was widely reproduced, plastered, for example, on streets, subways, magazines, postcards and lottery tickets, creating a ubiquity that, the collective hoped, would normalise the word and, by extension, the disease itself.
