In 1967, James Barnor photographed BBC Africa Service presenter Mike Eghan standing against the backdrop of Piccadilly Circus’ neon signs.

Over half a decade later, CIRCA and Serpentine invited Ferdinando Verderi, Creative Director of Vogue Italia, to revisit this iconic setting with fashion model Adwoa Aboah and photograph James Barnor’s first ever cover for Vogue:

“The biggest contribution I could provide to James’ career was allowing the new generation to understand James’ relevance to the history of photography by creating something which wasn’t just new but it was sort of an interpretation of his past.”

- Ferdinando Verderi

‘James Barnor, Vogue Italia, circa 2021’ has been created especially in support of the #CIRCAECONOMY.

Available for one month only (1-31 April 2021) the work is an edition limited by time. Orders may only be placed during this time period before the work is gone forever. Although we endeavour to deliver the prints as soon as possible, please note that they may take 1-2 months to arrive in the post.

Each print comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity.

70% of profits  will be distributed as part of the #CIRCAECONOMY which arises in response to our post-Covid world, recognising that there will be lasting damage inflicted upon the UK's cultural community. For April, we are proud to make a special donation in support of The James Barnor Foundation.

Please note: These prints are lovingly produced by Printer of Dreams: Fine Art Printers in the UK. Each print is hand wrapped in tissue paper for protection and a certificate of authenticity is marked by hand with the number of the edition. To guarantee they arrive in perfect condition, each print is safely packaged between two custom sheets of double corrugated cardboard and delivered with a tracking number.
